Skeggy might have a bit of a rough reputation but we think its great for a typically British day by the sea

When it comes to a day at the beach landlocked Nottingham is somewhat short on options.

If you’re really committed you could make the journey to Norfolk or Cleethorpes, but there’s a strong chance you’re opting for a trip to Skeggy.

Found on the Lincolnshire coastline, Skegness is just a 2-hour drive from Nottingham via the A52, making it a popular option for day trips and weekends away.

But Skegness has garnered a bit of a grim reputation despite being home to some popular attractions including Butlins and Fantasy Land.

That reputation has been solidified further following a recent ranking by online learning platform Preply which ranked it among the ‘worst beaches in the UK’.

Skegness was named the eighth ;most disappointing beach in the UK for visitors’.

According to the study, one in six (15%) TripAdvisor reviewers expressed their dissatisfaction with the beach.

The online learning platform’s research highlights the top 10 beaches in the UK that have not met visitor expectations, with Blackpool Beach, another popular spot for Nottingham residents, ranked as tenth most disappointing beech.

“Before you make the long-anticipated trip to the seaside this summer, it’s worth taking a look at which beaches some Brits aren’t loving.” The Preply advised the visitors.

The study was based on TripAdvisor reviews, utilising feedback from the travel comparison platform.

Preply explained that the research team created a seed list of the nation’s top 20 most popular and famous beaches, analysing the number of 1, 2, and 3-star reviews to determine which ones might leave visitors feeling underwhelmed.

The Skegness Beach ranked just behind Formby Beach (18%), West Wittering Beach (20%) and Brighton Beach (20%), with North Shore Beach in Llandudno (29%) topping the list at 29%.

Despite this rather savage ranking, we still think Skegness has a lot to offer its visitors. Our favourite attractions include the aquarium, seal sanctuary and of course, the pier.
