Located at the former RAF Winthorpe airfield, just outside Newark, the museum is just under an hour’s drive from Nottingham

Since opening in 1973 the museum has accumulated more than 90 aircraft, including iconic former RAF jets such as the Avro Vulcan Bomber, Hawker Hunter, and de Havilland Tiger Moth.

Around 50 aircraft are housed in two hangars, while others, including the famous Vulcan, are kept outside.

The Vulcan XM594, arguably the museum’s most popular exhibit, has been wowing visitors since its arrival in February 1983.

On selected dates, visitors are given special access to aircraft cockpits in return for a donation.

Last September visitors were allowed rare access to the Vulcan’s cockpit to mark 60 years since the aircraft entered service with the RAF.

Poignant dates in British military history are often marked by special displays and ceremonies at the museum.

In May 2022, the 40th anniversary of the Falklands conflict was commemorated with a memorial and new display.

The museum is open every day of the year apart from Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.

Admission is priced at £11 for adults, £10 for over 65s and £5.50 for children.
