The iconic Sherwood Forest scenes were shot in various locations, including Aysgarth Falls in North Yorkshire and Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire. (Not actually IN Sherwood Forest.)

The medieval castle of Nottingham was recreated using sets constructed at Shepperton Studios, while Alnwick Castle in Northumberland served as the backdrop for other key scenes.

Hadrian’s wall and the iconic Sycamore Gap Tree also feature in the film.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves took advantage of more than one of Northumberland’s striking natural settings. Aside from its unusual and striking appearance, Sycamore Gap’s cameo in Robin Hood is probably the reason that it’s one of the most photographed trees in the county. If you’ve never seen it, it is a dip in the county’s National Park landscape, with a sycamore tree resting at its base, and Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman battled against villainous knights beside it.Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves took advantage of more than one of Northumberland’s striking natural settings.
