For those who know the area, it will come as no surprise that the National Justice Museum is one of the most haunted buildings in Nottingham given its history of hangings and executions. It has even been voted the one of ‘most haunted buildings’ in the UK.

The Galleries of Justice are supposedly haunted by the spirits of the criminals who were put on trial and executed in the building.

Visitors have reported hearing ghostly screams, slamming doors, and unexplained knocking as they have followed in the footsteps of the prisoners who met their end in the county gaol.

Poltergeist activity is also common, with some visitors being hit with small stones.

In 2020, ghost tour guide Claire Finn shared some of her spookiest experiences on the museum website. She wrote: "After snaking our way through the courtroom, my group and I arrived at the dark cells. This is when things became interesting. A few members of the group felt as though they were being watched.

"One woman suddenly felt her arm had been pulled and was so terrified she insisted on staying outside in the exercise yard. I thought it best not to tell her about the bodies buried underneath..."

The National Justice Museum was also once home to the tyrannous Sheriff of Nottingham.
