History-lovers given rare opportunity to tour eerie catacombs beneath Nottingham cemetery
History lovers are set to be given a rare glimpse of eerie catacombs that lie underneath a Nottingham cemetery.
The catacombs underneath Rock Cemetery, next to the Forest Recreation Ground, are rarely open to the public but Nottingham City Council is running a handful of guided tours over the next three months.

Hide AdTours will provide an introduction and background to the cemetery itself followed by a tour of the catacombs and Robin Hood’s Cave.

The catacombs, said to be one of the most haunted locations in Nottingham, opened to the public for the first time in 2019 and saw 500 people join the waiting list for tours.
Rock Cemetery, officially called Church Cemetery, opened in 1856 and is the final resting place for several notable people, including architect Watson Fothergill.

This year’s tours will be held on January 27, February 24 and March 23.
There will be three tours on each day, beginning at 10am, 12pm and 2pm.
