The guided tours are expected to sell out fast

History lovers are set to be given a rare glimpse of eerie catacombs that lie underneath a Nottingham cemetery.

The catacombs underneath Rock Cemetery, next to the Forest Recreation Ground, are rarely open to the public but Nottingham City Council is running a handful of guided tours over the next three months.

Tours will provide an introduction and background to the cemetery itself followed by a tour of the catacombs and Robin Hood’s Cave.

The catacombs, said to be one of the most haunted locations in Nottingham, opened to the public for the first time in 2019 and saw 500 people join the waiting list for tours.

Rock Cemetery, officially called Church Cemetery, opened in 1856 and is the final resting place for several notable people, including architect Watson Fothergill.
