The fried chicken brand is looking to almost double its UK estate in 2024

Fried chicken chain Popeyes is set to open its second Nottingham restaurant as part of plans to almost double its UK portfolio in 2024.

Formed in Louisiana, USA, in 1972, Popeyes currently has 38 UK restaurants and is looking to add another 30 this year.

New locations include a restaurant and drive-thru at Nottingham’s Teal Park, with plans approved in November.

An opening date for the outlet has not yet been confirmed, although fried chicken lovers will be able to dine at the chain’s Upper Parliament Street restaurant in the meantime.

Popeyes opened its first UK restaurant, in Stratford, London, in 2021. The Upper Parliament Street restaurant started welcoming customers in late 2022.

The UK expansion is set to create around 2,000 jobs, with locations including Birmingham and Exeter among those where Popeyes will open restaurants for the first time.

Tom Byng, Chief Development Officer at Popeyes, said: “We opened our first store in November 2021, to huge hype and acclaim, and customer appetite shows no sign of slowing down.

“To date, we’ve opened 38 locations up and down the country, and converted legions of fried chicken fans to Popeyes.

“We’re excited to be giving even more people their first taste of New Orleans as we double our estate in 2024.”

Foodies can sign up here to be in with a chance to attend the opening ceremony of Nottingham’s new Popeyes.
