A 38-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control.

The dog, believed to be an XL Bully type, was seized from a nearby property and taken to secure kennels.

Officers said the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and an investigation to establish the full circumstances is ongoing.

In September, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the Government would ban XL Bully dogs, following a series of attacks and deaths linked to the breed.

From February 1, 2024, the American Bully XL will be added to the list of banned dogs in England and Wales where it will be illegal to own one unless the owner has an exemption.
