Alongside an overall position in the table, cities were also given a ranking for each of the respective factors.

London was the highest-ranked UK city in the table, coming in at second place behind New York.

Nottingham was ranked in 153rd place in this year’s Oxford Economics Global Cities Index.

The city’s ranking for each category, out of the 1,000 cities considered, were as follows:

Nottingham's overall ranking was higher than other UK cities including Newcastle, Brighton and Cardiff.

The lowest-ranked city in the table was Sultanpur, located in northern India.

Mark Britton, Director of City Services at Oxford Economics, said: “Whilst we forecast cities to continue to fuel global growth and drive global competitiveness over the coming decades, each city is different and understanding their unique characteristics is crucial.

“Our Global Cities Index provides a consistent framework for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the largest 1,000 cities across the world, and when coupled with our forecasts, it enables organisations and policymakers to make more informed strategic decisions.”
