Nottingham has been named one of the UK's most creative cities - here are some reasons why we agree

Nottingham has a lot to show off about when it comes to creativity

Nottingham has been named one of the UK's most creative cities in a recent study - and we're saying "rightfully so!"

Our city has been named the 10th most creative city in the UK, after the likes of Manchester, Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, and Edinburgh.

To determine the rankings, the experts at Adobe Express examined a variety of factors, such as the number of jobs available in the art sector, the number of museums and galleries, and the number of notable artists born in each of the 30 towns or cities compared within the study.

While we're not exactly surprised by this recent revelation, we do like to take any opportunity possible to champion our city.

So here are some reasons why we wholeheartedly agree Nottingham is a creative wonderland and more than worthy of its position on this list.

1. City of Literature

In 2015 Nottingham was given the UNESCO title of the City of Literature. This was for several reasons not least the city's connections to influential writers including D.H. Lawrence and Lord Byron.

In addition to this Nottingham is the host of several literary events that celebrate the written word. These events bring together authors, readers and literary enthusiasts from across the country.

Nottingham is also home to a number of libraries - not least Bromley House, which looks straight from the pages of Harry Potter.

2. A passion for fashion

Nottingham is home to some of the UK's top aspiring fashionistas. The fashion courses at NTU are regarded as some of the best in the country and is a place for people to form global careers. You can read up on the courses here.

In addition to this Nottingham is also the birthplace of Paul Smith, a leading fashion designer whose career began in a tiny shop in the city. Paul's Boutique has become a globally recognised brand and it all started here.

3. Love Lace

Nottingham also has the moniker 'City of Lace' owing to its extensive history with the textiles industry.

From 1850 onwards factories and warehouses were built in the area that we now know as the Lace Market to support the manufacture and selling of the fabric.

4. Foodies Paradise

Creativity comes in all forms - including edible ones. Nottingham has a thriving food and drink scene which is the envy of many larger cities.

There are top chefs, Michelin-starred restaurants, quirky venues, and destination restaurants galore in the city.

If there's one thing we know for sure nothing gets the creative juices flowing like a delicious meal.

5. Master of invention

British bicycle manufacturer Raleigh was founded here in Nottingham by Frank Bowden. The company quickly became one of the largest and most successful bicycle brands in the world and is synonymous with British cycling heritage.

Over the years, Raleigh expanded its production to include not only bicycles but also motorcycles and eventually automobiles. The company played a significant role in the cycling industry, producing iconic models and contributing to the popularity of bicycles worldwide.

6. Homegrown talent

Nottingham is the birthplace of many stars. From Sports Personality of the Year Mary Earps to singer Jake Bugg and beloved actress Vicky McClure.

One of the things Nottingham does best is allow creativity (in whatever field you choose) to blossom. We are extraordinarily proud and fond of our local talent and will never stop singing about their successes.

7. In the limelight

Nottingham has a vibrant and diverse theatre scene with a range of venues offering performances across the city.

From the historic Theatre Royal which welcomes tremendous West End performances and big-name acts to smaller contemporary spaces dominated by aspiring actors and comedians.

Nottingham is committed to showcasing talent and entertaining audiences in the same breath.
