I find lunch is a great way to try a restaurant’s food on a budget.
It is also an excuse to avoid my usual sorry sandwich lunch, which is how I found myself at Everyday People.

Hide AdNestled on Byard Lane, Nottingham, the ramen and small plates restaurant is the brainchild of MasterChef finalist Pete Hewitt.
Its website is loud and proud about being the ‘city’s first ramen shop’ with a menu rooted in Japanese culture.
There is spicy sesame and Szechuan pepper soup, duck chashu (braised, sliced), ice cream mochi and more.
For £17.60 I could get an inkling about a restaurant and its cooking, and because ramen is one of my favourite dishes, I honestly could not wait to dive in.

It is one of the vegetarian offerings on the menu consisting of roast squash and celeriac, steamed cabbage and marinated bamboo.
The dish comes with egg, but I ordered without, as I’m not an egg fan.
The creamy miso base was punchy, salty, and a real celebration of umami.

It was a highlight of my week.
The side I chose was edamame.

Topped with glittering smoked salt, a spritz of lime and nori, this was a bowl full of goodness which I think makes a terrific snack in all seasons, and for all occasions.
Planning a celebratory meal, from an anniversary to a graduation? Enjoy a side of lime edamame.

And that is the beauty of food at Everyday People.
It is also food for every day, or any day, without breaking the bank.
Sublime food aside, the customer service is one of the friendliest in the city.

Welcoming, knowledgeable and all round cool, you will feel as if you’re chatting to a mate down the pub.

From food that needs to feature on your ‘last supper list’ to warm customer service, and that ramen - it is the best in town - a visit to Everyday People is the best thing you can do this year.
